Experienced AFLW player Lily Mithen is officially a Gold Coast SUNS player after a trade involving six clubs was confirmed on Friday afternoon.

Mithen arrives at the SUNS in a deal which also sees the SUNS acquire Pick 19 from Collingwood, Pick 27 from Geelong, Pick 30 from Richmond and Pick 46 from Melbourne.

In exchange, the SUNS have given Picks 2, 20 (Melbourne) and 38 (Richmond).

Mithen has played 82 AFLW games and played a key role in Melbourne’s Season Seven premiership.

Her drive for success has her held in high regard throughout the AFLW industry, having previously won the Demons’ Trademark Player in 2019 and Demon Spirit Award in 2023.

Gold Coast SUNS Head of Women’s Football Fiona Sessarago is thrilled to welcome Mithen to the Gold Coast whilst also strengthening the club’s suite of draft selections.

“It is fantastic to be able to bring a player of Lily’s calibre into our program,” Sessarago said.

“Lily has displayed professionalism across nine seasons in the AFLW, dating right back to the competition’s first season.

“We’re excited not only by her on-field skillset but her character and the positive impact she can have on our program with her experience.

“This trade also strengthens our collateral of draft selections and aligns with our strategy ahead of the Telstra AFLW Draft.”

The SUNS currently hold Picks 19, 27, 30, 46, 56 and 74 ahead of the Telstra AFLW Draft on Monday, December 16.

The AFLW Trade Period closes on Wednesday, December 11.
