Young midfielder Ella Smith has signed a one-year contract extension to remain on the Gold Coast for the 2025 AFLW season.
Smith arrived at the club from the Brisbane Lions almost a year ago to the day, before making her club debut in the opening round of the 2024 season and playing a further three games this year.
The talented dual-sport athlete, who was an Under 19 National Champion rower and NAB AFLW Academy member before honing her focus on a football career, is thrilled to have penned a new deal with the club.
“It’s a great way to finish the year knowing I will be calling the Gold Coast home again in 2025,” Smith said.
“I’ve really enjoyed my first season at the club and made some lifelong friendships. I’ve loved how connected and driven the group is, who have all have welcomed me with open arms.
“While this season wasn’t the one we were hoping for, this group is hungry to achieve success, and we can’t wait to get preparations started for 2025.”
GC SUNS Head of Women’s Football Fiona Sessarago said, “It’s fantastic to have another young Queenslander locked in to our squad for next season."
“Now with two seasons at AFLW level under her belt, we’re looking forward to seeing Ella continue developing and excited to see the player she becomes in SUNS colours next season.
