Gold Coast SUNS vice-captain and reigning best and fairest Sam Collins has signed a three-year contract extension to remain with the club until at least the end of 2028.
Collins will extend his SUNS tenure to 10 years with the extension, cementing himself as one of the club’s most important players in that time.

The 30-year-old is a two-time SUNS Club Champion and also earned selection in the 2024 All Australian squad.
The key defender said he was invested in what the club could achieve in the coming years.
“It’s super exciting to be here for the long term and I’m really looking forward to continuing to contribute on and off the field,” Collins said.
“I’m very privileged to be able to sign a contract extension so it’s great for me and my family to be able to commit to the Gold Coast SUNS and commit to building a life up here. I’m forever grateful for the opportunity I have to play AFL football.
“Finals and a premiership is what success looks like for me. I wouldn’t have signed with the club for another three years if I didn’t believe that was possible and I’ll be giving everything I can to get that done in the near future.
“For me it’s a really exciting opportunity to bring success to this club and I want that ASAP.”
After starting his career at Fremantle, Collins was recruited by the SUNS out of Werribee’s VFL program as a mature-age selection in late 2018.
Since then, the vice-captain has gone on to play 113 of his career 127 games with the SUNS.
Gold Coast SUNS General Manager of Player Talent and Strategy Craig Cameron said Collins would continue to provide invaluable leadership to the club.
“Sam has shown incredible resilience and determination in his football journey to become one of the best defenders in the AFL competition,” Cameron said.
“He has established himself as one of our most important players on and off the field as our vice-captain, and we look forward to seeing Sam continue to provide valuable leadership and experience to our club in the coming years.”
Collins was earlier this month re-appointed to the leadership group and will serve as vice-captain for the fifth consecutive year in 2025.
The SUNS face the Brisbane Lions and Collingwood in match simulation on Thursday February 20 at People First Stadium, before hosting the Sydney Swans in a practice match on February 28.
