The Gold Coast SUNS have today been advised by the AFL on adjustments to the fixture to accommodate the postponed match against Essendon.
Saturday’s match against the Bombers, which was postponed due to the impending landfall of Cyclone Alfred in South-East Queensland, has been rescheduled to be included as part of the Round 24 fixtures.
The date and time for the revised match is still to be confirmed, with the AFL committed to maximising the breaks between the clubs’ current Round 24 games, the rescheduled game and the first week of finals.
The match will be played at People First Stadium and SUNS members will continue to have access as per their entitlements for a standard home game.
GC SUNS Chief Executive Officer Mark Evans said the club was supportive of the AFL’s decision.
“We are appreciative of the AFL’s efforts to move quickly to reschedule our match and provide certainty for our members and fans,” Evans said.
“We are satisfied this arrangement is the most reasonable outcome given the circumstances, and could very well provide fans from teams across the competition with one of the great grandstand finishes to a season.
“As for this weekend, the health and safety of our community is the number one priority right now and we urge everyone to follow the recommended advice to stay safe from Cyclone Alfred.”
Ticket purchasers/redeemers for the original Opening Round fixture will have access to the rescheduled match, with more information to be communicated by Ticketek in due course.
Ticketek’s official channels are the best destination for fans wishing to discuss their options around the rescheduled match.
