A disappointing final quarter has seen the SUNS fall to a 55-point defeat in Saturday’s VFL clash against Southport at Fankhauser Reserve.

Four consecutive goals late in the second and early in the third terms had fired the SUNS back into the contest, before the Sharks blew the margin out kicking the game’s final six majors.

Young SUN Nicholas Francis was the SUNS’ only multiple goalkicker on the day (two goals) with Brayden Fiorini having a second consecutive monster outing, topping 40 disposals for a second straight week, finishing with 47 disposals, eight inside 50s and eight clearances.

Nelson Beikoff-Smart was strong in the SUNS defence, finishing with a game-high 13 intercept possessions while Ned Moyle finished with 30 hitouts in an enticing ruck battle against Brayden Crossley.

The SUNS record now sits at 1-2 ahead of Sunday’s AFL curtain raiser against the similarly placed Sydney Swans at People First Stadium.
