SUNS AFL games record holder David Swallow is in contention to get his first match minutes of the 2025 season on Sunday.
As confirmed earlier this week in the Qscan Injury Update, Swallow is once again available for selection after being sidelined throughout the first six rounds with a PCL injury suffered in pre-season.
Senior Coach Damien Hardwick said on Wednesday that it’s like the 240-game veteran will return via the VFL.
“He probably needs to play VFL this week,” Hardwick said.
“We’ll have our main session on Friday and then we’ll make an assessment, but more than likely VFL.
Swallow played 20 games under Hardwick in 2024 with the coach full of praise for what the 32-year-old means to the SUNS.
“He’s just an incredible player. I’ve only known him for a short period of time, but we know what he means to this footy club,” Hardwick added.
“It’s a testament of what we love out of a Gold Coast SUNS person, both on and off the field. More importantly, he can play the game and he plays the game the right way.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming him back.”
Swallow is in contention to become the first Gold Coast SUNS play to reach 250 AFL games for the club later this season.
The SUNS will name its finalised AFL and VFL teams to face the Swans in Sunday’s double header at People First Stadium on Friday.
