Third-year midfielder Will Brodie will miss the remainder of the season after injuring his hamstring in the Round 18 match against Carlton.
Brodie sustained the injury in the final quarter of the match and SUNS Head Physiotherapist Lindsay Bull told the Alpha Sport Injury Update it was serious enough to rule him out for the remaining five games of the year.
“Will underwent a big stretch mechanism where he went over in a tackle,” Bull said.
“It’s unfortunately injured the medial portion of his hamstring which is a bit more of a rare injury with a big stretch, as opposed to a usual lateral hamstring injury.
“With Will’s quite significant injury on the medial side, that will see him out for the rest of the season.”
Mid-season draftee Mitch Riordan missed the NEAFL match on the weekend and is set for a stint on the sidelines as well.
“Mitch hurt his calf in training on Thursday and couldn’t finish the session so that looks like it will be a three or four week injury for Mitch,” Bull said.
After two weeks off, Jordan Murdoch is one set to return this week.
“Jordan’s just missed the last couple of games with that low-grade quad injury that he sustained a couple of weeks ago,” Bull said.
“So he’ll get through training this week hopefully and be available for selection.”
The SUNS are also set to regain midfielders Jack Bowes and Ben Ainsworth after a long-term injury layoff for the pair.
“Jack and Ben after eight and nine weeks respectively with their injuries are ready to go and join into full training this week,” Bull said.
“They both trained a fair bit last week as well so we’re hoping that they’ll be available for selection this weekend too.”
Jack Martin is expected to return to full training in the next one to two weeks as he continues to recover from a finger injury following approval from surgeons.
