Tickets to the 2019 JLT Community Series are officially on sale to all AFL and Club members plus the general public.
For the fifth consecutive season, AFL and Club members with game access during the Toyota AFL Premiership Season will be entitled to attend JLT Community Series matches free of charge (subject to availability and venue capacity).
As part of the pre-season the Gold Coast SUNS are set to play against the Western Bulldogs in Mackay on Sunday 3rd March and travel to Lismore, in Northern NSW, on Sunday 10th March to play against the Sydney Swans.
Gold Coast SUNS Chief Executive, Mark Evans was buoyed by the opportunity to take AFL football & the Gold Coast SUNS to North Queensland as part of the pre-season.
"To be able to bring elite level AFL football to the region and highlight Mackay on the national stage as part of the JLT Community Series is very exciting” Mr Evans said.
“As a club we know the importance of the role we play in increasing participation in our game throughout North Queensland, a key part of our SUNS Talent Academy.
“The day after our match against the Bulldogs, at Great Barrier Reef Arena, our players will spend time visiting schools, community groups and local football clubs throughout the region, to assist in helping more people fall in love with our game.”
The 2019 JLT Community Series will see all 18 AFL teams play two matches across a three-week stretch between Thursday February 26 and Monday March 11 leading into the 2019 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.
Mackay Mayor Greg Williamson encouraged everyone in the region to embrace the opportunity to watch and enjoy elite sport in Mackay.
“We are lucky to have both the Gold Coast SUNS and Western Bulldogs playing in our backyard and we hope that inspires people to get out and try AFL through one of the many programs available to them,” Mayor Williamson said.
“As part of our Invest Mackay Events Attraction Program we’re proud to bring some of the biggest events throughout the country to our region and provide the people of Mackay and its visitors with the opportunity to enjoy top class events, at top class facilities.
“It’s important that the people of Mackay, get out and enjoy these major events, purchase tickets and encourage them to continue to come to our city.”
The JLT Community Series game in Mackay is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland and features on the It’s Live! in Queensland events calendar, worth $800m to the state’s economy in 2019.
All 18 matches in the JLT Community Series will again be exclusively broadcast live by FOX FOOTY on Foxtel. In addition, every match will also be made available live to fans via the AFL Live App thanks to Telstra.
