Two more Suns have sustained injuries during the QClash14 against Brisbane Lions that will see them ruled out of the remaining matches of the 2017 season.
Sean Lemmens suffered an ankle injury during the final quarter of the match, and GM Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft, confirmed to the Optomo Injury Report he would require surgery.
“A pretty bad injury for Sean on the night, he got carried off,” Ashcroft said.
“He went and saw the medical guys on Monday and unfortunately he needs to get some surgery on his foot.
“With that he’ll miss the rest of the year.”
Ruckman Dan Currie bravely battled through a broken foot on Saturday night, and the subsequent surgery has ruled him out for the rest of the season.
“Dan toughed the night out on Saturday night,” Ashcroft said.
“He hurt his foot early in the game, soldiered through, but unfortunately did break a bone in his foot.
“He had surgery on Monday night where they inserted a pin, he won’t play this week nor the following week.”
Gary Ablett wasn’t able to prove his fitness last week with a persistent hamstring issue, and will not be taking to Metricon Stadium field on Saturday against Essendon.
“Don’t think he’ll be available for this weekend, but we’re holding some hope for our last game against Port Adelaide,” Ashcroft said.
In positive news Pearce Hanley is expected to line-up for the SUNS provided he can get through Thursday training.
“Scans cleared any issues with his hamstring, it’s more neural stuff coming from his back,” Ashcroft said.
“We’ll monitor that on Thursday once he finishes training but we’re optimistic he’ll be available for Saturday night.”
