The Gold Coast SUNS are a chance to name an unchanged line-up for Saturday night’s game against Carlton following last week’s 86-point victory over Hawthorn,
Despite the result the SUNS match committee will face some selection headaches with strong performances across the board for both the senior and NEAFL sides.
Ben Ainsworth, a late withdrawal from the club’s 25-man squad to take on Hawthorn, is a chance to return from a corked quad this weekend.
Midfielder Pearce Hanley has returned to the Gold Coast and is back training after being granted compassionate leave to travel to Ireland. He’s an outside chance to play some form of football this weekend but SUNS medical staff won’t want to risk the midfielder should he not be fit to play.
The Gold Coast NEAFL team recorded a 92-point victory over Redland last weekend, with a number of SUNS putting their hands up for selection. Midfielders Mitch Hallahan, Jesse Lonergan and Matt Shaw were again named in the best and continue to put selection pressure on.
Callum Ah Chee responded well to being omitted from the senior side with a 20 disposal, two goal game in the reserves.
Others to impress were 2016 draftees Jack Scrimshaw, Will Brodie and Brad Scheer, who all showcased their potential, and their names will undoubtedly be thrown around the match committee table.
