Steven May’s injury will result in at least one forced change being made to the SUNS round five team to take on the Adelaide Crows at Metricon Stadium on Saturday.

May sustained a hamstring injury in the final quarter of round four against Carlton and is expected to miss a minimum of two weeks, as reported in the Optomo Injury Report.

His absence provides a perfect opportunity for Jack Leslie to continue his run of form at the senior level, but with Rory Thompson also ruled out, the Match Committee will be looking at a range of options to fill the back six.

After consistent form in the NEAFL, Keegan Brooksby could potentially earn a senior spot for the first time in 2017. Brooksby would need to be upgraded from the rookie list before taking his spot, but with Sam Day out of action, the SUNS do have a spot on the senior list open.

Josh Schoenfeld has been impressive at NEAFL after a late call-up to seniors for round one.

There is also the possibility that the Match Committee would look to reshuffle existing positions in the midfield and forward line to cover May and Thompson, opening up more opportunities.

Senior Coach Rodney Eade’s philosophy has always been to reward solid form in the NEAFL competition, which puts Jesse Lonergan, Matt Shaw and potential debutant Brad Scheer in contention for senior selection.

While forward Callum Ah Chee has also responded well to his time in the NEAFL, kicking three goals over the past two games.
