The Gold Coast SUNS are on the verge of blooding another debutant, with Queensland zone selection draftee Alex Sexton included in the extended squad to play St Kilda at Etihad Stadium on Easter Sunday.

One of the most promising young players in the country, Sexton who was pre-listed with the GC SUNS prior to the 2011 AFL Draft will have to wait until tomorrow afternoon to find out if he will make the trip to Melbourne.

A member of the AFL/AIS Academy, Sexton was a supplementary list player at Redland and a GC SUNS reserves top-up player in 2011 and was the first player nominated for the NAB NEAFL Rising Star Award from the GC SUNS camp.

Sexton, won the Alan McLean Medal as the division two Best & Fairest and the Queensland MVP at the 2010 NAB Australian U16 Championships and in 2011 was a Queensland Under 18 representative.

In another bonus for the GC SUNS, boom youngster Trent McKenzie has also been included in the squad returning from a knee injury.

Joining Sexton and McKenzie in the squad is Matt Shaw, Mav Weller, Josh Fraser and Liam Patrick.

The GC SUNS have omitted Sam Iles, while Seb Tape will miss the match after he lost three teeth during last weekends match against the Crows and Dan Gorringe will miss with an Achilles injury.

The squad will be trimmed on Friday afternoon, with the GC SUNS to settle on the four interchange players and three emergencies prior to the AFL’s 5pm deadline.
