SUNS Academy product Dee Heslop has joined the SUNS for the 2020 AFLW season, drafted with pick 69 in the 2019 NAB AFLW Draft.
Heslop has lived on the Gold Coast since 2012 after relocating from her native New Zealand at age 11.
She joined the SUNS Academy program soon after and has progressed quickly through the Queensland Talent Pathway, selected to represent Queensland at Under 18 level for three consecutive years.
Heslop was also recognised with selection in the 2019 NAB AFLW Academy squad.
She has represented the SUNS in both the 2018 and 2019 Winter Series’ and played her club football for Yeronga in the QAFLW this season.
“What we love about Dee is she thrives on contested footy, wins her own ball and enjoys physical contact,” AFLW Senior Coach David Lake told SUNS Media.
“She’s got lots of potential to be a dominant inside midfielder going forward and will be keen to prove that to her teammates and opponents.”
A 167cm versatile midfielder, Heslop’s greatest strengths are her endurance and work rate.
The 18-year-old has also played off half-back where she’s excelled with her sharp skills and decision making.
Heslop becomes the 9th SUNS Academy player to join Gold Coast’s AFLW list for 2020.
