After being selected by the SUNS with Pick 1 and 2 in the 2019 NAB AFL Draft, best mates Matt Rowell and Noah Anderson can’t wait to get up to the Gold Coast to begin their AFL careers.
The pair have played junior, school, club and representative football together for years and now will embark on their AFL journey together.
Speaking to SUNS Media moments after his best mate Anderson was announced to be joining him on the Coast, Rowell said he couldn’t think of anyone better to share the experience with.
“I can say that we’ve got a great player and a great person in pick 2,” Rowell said.
“I’m pretty excited to go up with him.
“I’ve spent a lot of time with him as a mate and I just know how much he works hard and how much he wants this so we’re both really excited to join.”
Anderson echoed Rowell’s comments and said he was excited to move north with his fellow SUNS draftee.
“Obviously it’s such an honour and a privilege and I’m very lucky to be drafted with one of my best mates so I’m not complaining.
“I can’t wait to get up there and get started.”
After being selected with the first overall pick, Rowell said it was a “massive honour” and credited his family for helping him get to this point.
“My family have been massive for me,” Rowell said.
“They’ve been great supporters of me and allowed me to pursue my dream to become an AFL footballer.
“They’ve always been by my side and I couldn’t be here without them so they’ve been massive.”
Both Rowell and Anderson will begin pre-season training on the Gold Coast on Monday.
