The Gold Coast SUNS have entered uncharted waters with their 3-0 start to the 2016 AFL premiership season, the best in the club’s short history.
Despite the increased hype and attention surrounding the team, expectations internally remain in check with so much of the season still remaining.
The leadership group at Metricon Stadium are driving the playing list to avoid complacency and ensure their preparation each week remains consistent.
“It’s been a great start but we’ve still got a long way to go this year,” vice-captain Steven May told reporters on Tuesday.

“Complacency is something that we’ve been driving hard in the leadership group. That we need to prepare the same each week and we’ve done that for the first three rounds and got the results so preparation going into Brisbane is going to be no different.”
The SUNS are heavy favourites to go to 4-0 when they travel up to The Gabba on Saturday to face off with Queensland rivals, the Brisbane Lions.
While the QClash rivalry may not have the same heat as the Western Derby or the Adelaide Showdown, May says the match is growing and that anything can happen once the teams cross the white line and the opening siren sounds.

“It’s a rivalry and it’s definitely growing,” May said.
“There’s been a few times where we’ve been massive underdogs and got the win and same for them so regardless of how we start and how they start, it’s going to be nil-all when we come out to play this week.
“It’s at their home ground so they definitely have an advantage but our boys are going to be fired up and we have to approach them like we’re approaching Hawthorn or anyone else.”
