The Gold Coast SUNS remain tested on the injury front, with a number of players in doubt for Saturday’s clash against Adelaide at Metricon Stadium.
Adam Saad is one player who won’t be there after suffering a hamstring injury in the round eight loss to GWS. Saad blanketed Crows star Eddie Betts in a pre-season game and his absence is a major one for an already undermanned SUNS back six.
“He did a fantastic job on Eddie, kept him goalless in the NAB Challenge,” GM – Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft, told the Optomo Injury Report.
“He provides great run out of our back half so he will be missed. At this stage it’s a three-to-four week injury.”
Skipper Gary Ablett and ruckman Tom Nicholls were assessed with concussion over the weekend, and will need to pass the relevant tests throughout the week to be available to face Adelaide.
“Both lads are still going through the concussion protocol. We won’t know more until Thursday where it will be definitive,” Ashcroft said.
“So we’ll monitor that and be able to give more of an update once training’s finished on Thursday.”
Aaron Hall (shoulder) and Touk Miller (ankle) will also need to be passed fit for this Saturday’s game.
There is some positive news, with talls Dan Currie, Rory Thompson and Peter Wright all likely to be available for selection if they can get through Thursday’s main training session unscathed.
“Some good news stories there. Obviously Dan Currie missed last week, only missing the one week so he’ll come into calculations,” Ashcroft said.
“Rory Thompson’s been out for a long while now so hopefully he can get through training on Thursday. He’s a test at this stage but if he gets through that then a decision will be made on whether he plays in the senior team or the reserves team.
“Peter Wright missed last week, just, with a tight calf. You’d think he’d get through training on Thursday and be available to play.”
