Tom Lynch – Round 17 v Adelaide at Adelaide Oval
On the intimidating setting of Adelaide Oval, Tom Lynch produced one of the finest performances of the entire 2015 campaign. The key forward was absolutely dominant from the opening bounce, taking strong marks and kicking key goals. He finished with 4.1 from 21 possessions and 11 marks, four of which were contested and four contested grabs. Lynch went behind the ball at different times in the second half to stem the bleeding and was unstoppable for the duration of the day with the Crows having no answers.
Steven May – Round 18 v West Coast at Metricon Stadium
Josh Kennedy travelled to southern Queensland as the most in-from key forward in the competition. There was daylight between him and the next player in the Coleman medal race. Enter Steven May. Despite a massive gulf in midfield personnel, May completely nullified the West Coast star, holding him to just six touches and three marks. The SUNS key defender collected 16 possessions of his own, to go with 12 spoils and four rebound 50s.
Charlie Dixon – Round 14 v North Melbourne at Metricon Stadium
Charlie Dixon put on an absolute clinic against the Kangaroos. The spearhead finished with a club record seven goals, but it wasn’t just the numbers, rather than manner in which he impacted the game. He dominated Robbie Tarrant and Scott Thompson at different times, taking grabs overhead on the lead at pace, in packs and in classic one-on-one duels. Dixon kicked his 7.2 from 15 possessions and five marks – all five were taken inside 50. Clinical.
Gary Ablett – Round 16 v Greater Western Sydney at Metricon Stadium
The little master put any lingering doubt regarding the state of his shoulder to rest with a breathtaking performance against the Giants. Gary Ablett did his damage in all areas, setting the standard from start to finish. The dual Brownlow medallist collected 30 possessions, nine clearances, three goals and 708 metres of gained territory. And then on top of that excellence, he registered a club record 17 tackles. Shoulder injury? What injury? A stunning effort from the champion.
Charlie Dixon – Round 5 v Brisbane at Metricon Stadium
In the SUNS first win of 2015, Charlie Dixon was a dominant force, equalling the club record of six goals in one of the best performances by a forward in the club’s history. The spearhead finished with 6.2 from 19 possessions, including 15 contested possessions and seven marks to win the Marcus Ashcroft medal. Dixon’s partnership with Tom Lynch played a pivotal role in Gold Coast’s comfortable QClash victory.
Tom Lynch – Round 19 v Brisbane at the Gabba
Tom Lynch put on another master class against the Lions in QClash10. He dominated from start to finish, with the Brisbane back six having no solution for his form. Lynch registered an equal career-high five goals, 18 possessions and nine marks in a well-rounded performance that encompassed everything that’s great about the SUNS leader. His chase down tackle late in the game to halt the Lions momentum was indicative of his comprehensive performance – an effort that saw him take away the Marcus Ashcroft medal.
Michael Rischitelli – Round 3 v Geelong at Simonds Stadium
After a dismal start to the season, the SUNS desperately needed a leader to stand up, especially with Gary Ablett set for an extended spell on the sidelines after re-aggravating his shoulder. And that is precisely what Michael Rischitelli did against the Cats. The seasoned midfielder burst out of the blocks, collecting 18 touches in the first half to be the most valuable player on the ground. He was slowed somewhat after the main break after Mark Blicavs went to him, but Rischitelli still finished with 27 possessions, eight clearances and seven inside 50s in one of the best performances by a Gold Coast midfielder in 2015.
Kade Kolodjashnij – Round 15 v Western Bulldogs at Cazaly’s Stadium
Kade Kolodjashnij’s ultra consistent 2015 campaign reached its pinnacle in Cairns where the Tasmanian utilised his potent left foot to help setup play from defence. The 20-year-old collected a career-high 30 possessions, ten marks, six rebound 50s and 503 metres of gained territory in a stunning display against a quality Bulldogs outfit that eventually ran over the top of the SUNS. His clever decision making and bold ball use was on display in humid conditions in north Queensland.
Touk Miller – Round 16 v Greater Western Sydney at Metricon Stadium
Touk Miller was forced to break the door down before being handed a Rising Star nomination. And that’s exactly what he did against the Giants, producing one of the best performances by a first-year player for the year. Miller collected a career-high 27 disposals, 18 contested possessions, nine clearances, seven tackles, three goal assists and two majors of his own. It was without doubt one of the more well rounded performances of the year by all the Rising Star nominees. In a glimpse at the future, the young Victorian waxed with Gary Ablett on a handful of occasions, appearing like they had been playing alongside each other for years.
Adam Saad – Round 5 v Brisbane at Metricon Stadium
Rookie revelation Adam Saad manufactured one of the most captivating performance of his year against the Lions in the first QClash of the year. Saad was scintillating, bursting out of the back half of the ground, putting the ball under his arm and taking on opponents. The 21-year-old was anointed with a Rising Star nomination on the back of his effort against the Lions, where he collected an equal career-high 26 possessions at an elite efficiency rate of 81 per cent, to go with nine running bounces and 554 metres gained. Saad’s dash, dare and then ability to hit targets would quickly see him become a vital cog in Rodney Eade’s defensive make up.
