The team at SUNS Media have previewed the club’s inaugural AFLW season ahead of Round 1 this weekend against GWS.
Here’s everything you need to know.
The coach:
David Lake
The skippers:
Sam Virgo & Leah Kaslar
The leadership group:
Virgo & Kaslar are joined by Tiarna Ernst, Sally Riley and Jamie Stanton in the leadership group.
The fixture:
The SUNS play eight matches in 2020; four at home and four away. After kicking the season off against GWS in Blacktown, Gold Coast then host Richmond and Brisbane in back-to-back home matches at Metricon Stadium. The final two home games are in Round 5 (vs Geelong in Mackay) and Round 7 (vs Adelaide at Southport).

Make sure you’re there:
It’s going to be a day of history when Gold Coast play their first home match against Richmond at Metricon Stadium. The match starts at 4:10pm with gates opening at 3:30pm. What makes it even better is admission is FREE!
One to watch:
Keep an eye on Britt Perry in 2020. The small forward has an instinctive play style which goes with her uncanny knack of scoring goals. She’ll be roaming in the SUNS forward line in 2020 and is hard to stop with the footy in hand. Expect to see plenty of goals to her name this year.
Surprise packet:
Going under the radar is Hannah Dunn. The ACT product was picked up by the SUNS in the 2019 AFLW Draft after dominating in the AFL Canberra competition for Queanbeyan. An inside midfielder with poise, don’t be surprised if Dunn ends up at the top of the disposal tally in games this season.
Fan favourite:
It’s hard to go past Serene Watson. She was the first player selected by the SUNS in the 2019 AFLW Draft and is a hit with the kids. Watson is a serial offender of filming Tik Tok’s with her teammates around the club.
