Jamie Stanton and Kate Surman have been named in the AFLW Team of the Week after strong performances in the SUNS’ 11-point win over Richmond at Metricon Stadium.

Stanton was particularly strong through the midfield, running with Richmond skipper Katie Brennan and accumulating 20 disposals and a goal in her 25thAFLW match.

She was also recognised in the AFLW Coaches’ votes with nine votes.

Surman was equally as influential rotating through the midfield and forward lines, with the diminutive on-baller finishing with two goals, 12 disposals and six tackles.

The 28-year-old received four votes from the coaches for her efforts also.

The Team of the Week is selected to mirror the All Australian side: five defenders, six midfielders (including a ruck), five forwards and five interchange players.

Like the All Australian team, it has players selected in general categories, rather than in traditional positions.
