Gold Coast SUNS AFLW forward Kalinda Howarth has capped off a stellar debut year in the red and gold with selection in the 2020 Toyota AFL Women’s All Australian team.
Howarth was named on the interchange in the All Australian side on Monday night, which consists of the 21 best players in the league in their positions.
It comes after an outstanding season for the 20-year-old who booted nine goals in seven games to finish equal third in the league’s overall goal kicking.
Howarth told SUNS Media she was incredibly humbled to earn her place in the prestigious team.
“I love this club so much so for me I was happy just to be able to run out in SUNS colours every week,” she said.
“I don’t play the game for individual accolades but I’m really grateful to have been recognised for all the hard work I’ve put in to get to where I am now.
“I’d like to thank everyone who has helped me on my journey so far; the club, my family, friends and all the SUNS members and fans.
“To make All Australian is a massive honour and I’m thrilled to be named alongside some of the best in the competition.”
Howarth had her breakout game in Round 3 against the Brisbane Lions, kicking three goals, including one in the dying minutes to level the scores in the first ever QClash.
Her efforts saw her nominated for the NAB AFLW Rising Star award in the same round and named in the 22Under22 side at the conclusion of the season.
A special edition of the W Awards will be aired on FOX FOOTY and AFL.com.au from 7.00pm Tuesday (tomorrow) where the NAB AFLW Rising Star and the AFLW Best and Fairest will be announced.
