The Gold Coast SUNS joined community members and campaign supporters for the annual White Ribbon Awareness Day Walk at Palm Beach Parklands Pirate Park on Sunday.
The White Ribbon Walk is part of 16 days of activism which attempts to put a stop to male violence against women and children, and is one of the many events the club is involved in.
On top of the walk, the GC SUNS held a Black and White Afternoon Tea on White Ribbon Day, November 25. The club also supported the ACT for Kids Golf Day in May this year, and have invited over 500 people who have experienced domestic violence to attend the White Christmas charity event on December 11 at Movie World.
Domestic Violence ambassadors, Zac Smith and Daniel Gorringe said the club is committed to supporting White Ribbon wherever possible.
“This is the fifth year that I have been a club ambassador for our domestic violence charities,” Smith said
“It has been great to see how much work has been done in this area over the past five years all year round and how the awareness in the community has grown significantly.”
Gorringe believes he and his teammates can make a significant difference to the White Ribbon Day cause, not only this week, but all year.
“As players we have such a strong influence on the community, therefore by simply talking about it will help increase awareness of this serious issue,” Gorringe said.
“To be able to help spread the message through the work we do will not only help spread the message, but help end violence against women and children in the community.”
The 16-day campaign will come to an end on Thursday, December 11, where the GC SUNS, Movie World, Gold Coast Community Fund, will hold the White Christmas charity event, with the help of several partner organisations.
The GC SUNS, along with other White Christmas Charity Event partners, have so far raised over $40,000 towards the White Christmas charity fund which will go to Gold Coast Charities and families in need including those affected by domestic violence.
