SUNS members stand tall in Asia
Gold Coast SUNS foundation members Steve and Julie Foster spread much-needed cheer across poverty-stricken areas in Thailand, donating GC SUNS merchandise to a local orphanage during a recent holiday to Asia.
The Fosters are a familiar face around Metricon Stadium, having only missed two of the GC SUNS home-games since their entering the national competition in 2009.
On their recent trip to Cambodia and Thailand, the couple took along a stack of books, pens and other stationary to give to the respective city’s local kids, but were eager to take some club merchandise to introduce the city’s youth to “Australia’s Game”.
Speaking exclusively with goldcoastfc.com.au, Steve said the children from the Pongsena Orphanage were smiling from ear-to-ear after receiving some GC SUNS membership caps and club stationary.
“They were just so grateful,” said Mr Foster.
“They were so appreciative and kept thanking us for thinking about them in such a caring way.”
Mr Foster said his reason behind spreading such positive word-of-mouth about the GC SUNS was to give the club more exposure in a foreign environment.
“I’ve been a SUNS member since the team started in 2009, and simply just love my footy,” said Mr Foster.
“Any way we can help create more exposure for this great club the better!”
The die-hard footy fan said he would like to return to Asian in the near future and will be looking to donate a few Sherrins to the local orphanage.
“In the next three years I would like to take about 20 shirts to the local soccer team and a few footballs to Pongsena,” said Mr Foster.
“It’s certainly something Julie and I are passionate about, and we can’t wait to go back to Thailand so we can bring more smiles to the kid’s faces.”
