SUNS defensive duo Lauren Ahrens and Jade Pregelj have tied for Runner-Up in the 2020 SUNS AFLW Club Champion count.
Heading into the final round of the vote count, Ahrens sat second on the leaderboard with 156 votes while Pregelj trailed in third on 154 votes.
But a strong performance in the Semi Final against Fremantle saw Pregelj draw even with Ahrens on the final leaderboard with both sitting on 180 votes apiece.
It’s an apt end to the season for the pair who have proven to be one of the most reliable defensive duos in the league.
Both players finished in the top three for rebound 50’s league-wide, again not able to be split with 24 each for the season at an average of 3.4 per game.
Pregelj led the league in intercept possessions lodging 55 for the season, but Ahrens was not far behind in third place with 46.
In her first year at AFLW level, Ahrens played all seven games for the SUNS and averaged 15 disposals and three tackles per game.
Also in her debut season, Pregelj averaged 12 disposals and two tackles from her seven matches.
Their best match together was in Round 3 in the first ever AFLW QClash, collecting 60 votes in total between them as they blanketed Brisbane’s forward line in the second half.
