Eddie, Crows cruise over young SUNS

Adelaide's big offensive guns fired to sink a depleted Gold Coast side by 41 points at Metricon Stadium on Saturday night.

Eddie Betts terrorised the SUNS defence bagging five goals to match his haul against Port Adelaide in last week’s showdown.

So depleted are the SUNS through injury and club-imposed suspensions, the games tally for Saturday night’s side was less than the outfit that ran out in the club’s debut back in 2011.

Every football club has their line in the sand moments that determine their path forward. The Gold Coast SUNS had an off-field turning point this week but a history-defining conclusion eluded them on Saturday night as Adelaide completed a straight forward victory.

With barely enough players to scrape together a full team after injuries and club-imposed suspensions, there was an, albeit waif-like, opportunity for the SUNS to notch up a stirring win.

It was the ease with which Adelaide punished the SUNS in their counterattack that saw five consecutive Crows goals in the first quarter, despite a relatively even possession share.

Understrength Gold Coast SUNS lose by 41, can't break winless drought against Adelaide Crows

The SUNS period on the winners' list has been short-lived, with the team brought back to reality with a thump after a 41-point drubbing from the Adelaide Crows at Metricon Stadium.

Terribly undermanned through injury, suspension and club-imposed sanction, the SUNS were always going to be on the back foot against a side they have not yet beaten since their entry into the competition in 2011.

And while they fought hard in the final term to avoid a 50-point loss, the SUNS were largely ineffective throughout the match.
