Football’s biggest story intensified on Monday, with the club confirming the game’s highest profile player would seek further consultation from specialists on his injured shoulder.

General Manager of Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft, provided an official update to media this afternoon, advising reporters Gary Ablett would be given every opportunity to assess all medical options available to him before proceeding with the most appropriate course of action.

“I know it’s been a very topical point of conversation with Gary’s injury but I can give you an update up to this point,” Ashcroft said.

“Gary had his scans this morning, which everyone is aware of. He will seek further specialist advice in Melbourne over the next 24 hours.

“He has consulted with our medical team today and as we do with every player, we want to make sure we get all the facts on the table before we make a decision on a plan going forward.”

Gold Coast's superstar captain will now board a flight south to meet with specialists in Melbourne, including Greg Hoy who rebuilt two-time Brownlow medalist Chris Judd's shoulder.

“So Gary will go down to Victoria in the next day to seek further specialist advice and then from that point, we’ll be able to update everyone as to where he’s going to go with his plans and what the rehab time might be beyond that.”

Significantly, scan results have shown no bone damage around his left shoulder.

“Based on today’s scans, our doctor has advised that there is no bone damage at all evident from the scans, which is a positive, but we still need to get further advice from specialists down in Victoria.”
