Recent performances suggested Tom Lynch was ready to fire in front of goals and that is exactly what he did against Greater Western Sydney this afternoon, kicking a career-high five goals in the side’s 40-point victory at Metricon Stadium.

The Gold Coast forward had a day to remember against the much-improved Giants as he put on a clinical display at full forward in what was an inspiring second half of football.

The vice-captain kicked two of his five majors in the third quarter as the home side put on the after-burners, before kicking his last pair to put the match beyond doubt in the fourth term.

He was nothing short of dominant in his pursuit of the footy, plucking eight marks (five of which were contested inside-50) to accompany his 17 touches and five-goal haul.

Lynch was pleased with his team’s performance as the GC SUNS stretched their winning streak over GWS to four matches.

“It was great to come out on our home deck and stamp our authority on GWS,” he told SUNS TV.

“It was a really big win for the club; we now sit 4-2 and strengthen our position inside the top eight.

“You can see we’ve done the work in the pre-season… our midfielders really gave us a chance our and our pressure around the ground was fantastic.”

Although he was the headline act, Lynch was just one of eleven goal-kickers for the SUNS.  It made up, in part, for the horrid afternoon the side had against Melbourne last week, where they misfired in front of goal and went for 20 minor scores.

“It was great to have such a wide spread,” he said.

“Early on we were getting up the ground and contesting and the likes of Aaron Hall and Brandon Matera was either getting the ball or tackling to force them under pressure.”

Individually, Lynch said he would take plenty of confidence away from his career performance, but was equally as pleased to follow it up with the team song.

“It was good to get on the end of a couple, but it was a great team performance and good to get the win alongside the boys.”

Gold Coast will now begin preparations for its round seven match against North Melbourne, as they look to defeat the Kangaroos and post their first victory at Etihad Stadium.

“Yeah it’s a massive game for us, heading into the bye we want to be 5-2,” Lynch said.

“North are a very good side so we’re going to have to bring our effort and get the last kick.”
