Aussie sports legend and Sydney Olympic Gold Medallist Cathy Freeman was in the GC SUNS camp at Simonds Stadium in Geelong on Saturday night.

Freeman caught up with the injured GC SUNS star Harley Bennell prior to the match before cheering on the SUNS as they took the game up to the Cats.

Bennell said it was a fantastic opportunity to talk with one of Australia’s greatest athletes.

“It was great to meet her.

We all know what a fantastic athlete Cathy was and she does so much for young indigenous people across the country so it was a privilege to meet her,” Bennell told goldcoastfc.com.au.

Following the match Freeman joined Bennell in the GC SUNS change rooms. In the rooms Bennell took the opportunity to introduce Freeman to his teammates.

“The boys were rapt to see her she was impressed the teams performance, it’s exciting that Cathy has a soft spot for the Gold Coast SUNS.”
