It was a courageous fight-back from Shaun Hart’s NEAFL boys, however a damaging ten-goal second quarter blitz by the home team all but sealed the victory for the Brisbane Lion Reserves, with the Gold Coasters falling to a 28-point loss at Coorparoo Oval.

The NEAFL SUNS were off to a flying start in the opening term, with Liam Patrick and Nathan Bock inspiring the travelling visitors to take a steady 15-point lead heading into the first break.

But a hungrier Lions outfit and a relentless attack inside-50 saw the Gold Coasters fall under the weight of supply, to see Leigh Harding’s reserves set up their victory.

Rookie-forward Josh Hall sent an injury scare through the Gold Coast camp mid-way through the second quarter, with the North Queenslander needing medical assistance after twisting his ankle in a contest.

Maverick Weller also appeared to come off second best after putting his head over the contested football, but bounced back moments later.
Jacob Gillbee was among Hart’s shining lights, finishing with a game-high five goals to cap off a best-on-ground performance.

Midfielder Alex Sexton continues to push his case for a first-team call-up, putting in another stand-out performance for the Gold Coasters after kicking three goals in the side’s last against the NT Thunder at TIO Stadium last weekend.

While Nathan Bock continues to improve with each outing, the veteran defender comfortably getting through a full match.

The Gold Coasters will now turn their attention Aspley, with the Shaun Hart’s playing group set to once again make their way north of the M1 when the two NEAFL rivals meet next weekend.
