It wasn’t the dream start to his AFL career he was hoping for, but elevated-rookie Andrew Boston was still able to treasure a moment in front of family and friends at Metricon Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

In front of almost 14,000 spectators, the Gold Coaster made his first AFL appearance after the GC SUNS activated the 18-year-old substitute for returning utility Karmichael Hunt at the end of the third quarter.

But Boston’s fourth quarter insurgence was not enough to spark the Gold Coasters to their sixth victory, with Adelaide eventually running out as the 28-point winners.

“The way Adelaide used the ball just showed they’re pretty good team and we let ourselves down a little in the fourth term and probably didn’t play our best football,” Boston told goldcoastfc.com.au at Sunday’s recovery session.

Despite the disappointing finish, Boston said his family and friends were still be upbeat about his personal milestone – but reaffirmed his only focus heading into the weekend was helping his teammates secure the victory.

“My dad was pretty happy when I went on the ground, but I think everyone’s mood after the match was down because we lost,” said Boston.

“The main objective was always to coming in and getting the win and we were just shy of achieving that.

“No doubt we’ll look at the game and work out the little things on what we should have done and we’ll learn from that going forward.”
