Vacating his former No. 39, Timmy Sumner will have big shoes to fill in 2014 with the Gold Coast speedster to adopt Jared Brennan’s old No. 3 guernsey.

Brennan, one of the most exciting and enigmatic players in recent times, often had AFL fans from across the country shaking their heads in disbelief, amazed by his incredible one-handed pick-ups and rare ability to freakishly bend the ball in the air.

As Gold Coast SUNS members and fans found out in 2013, the two aren’t too dissimilar, with Sumner sharing Brennan’s flair in attack and x-factor qualities.

The upgrade to a lower numbered guernsey will come as no surprise to members and fans, with the 19-year-old South Australian showing plenty of promise in his eleven AFL appearances in his maiden season, missing just three senior matches after the mid-season break.

Fuelled by the thirst of playing senior AFL football, Sumner returned from the off-season break determined to complete his first full pre-season, a goal that was picked up by high performance staff during the club’s recent travel to Arizona.

“Timmy is one who has taken a few steps forward and is training really well,” Conditioning Coach Max Kennedy said of Sumner.
