Due to the excessive amount of rain experienced on the Gold Coast over the past 24hrs which is expected to continue throughout the day, today's curtain raiser game between GC SUNS and Brisbane Lions reserves has been rescheduled.
The game will now be played 12pm (midday) tomorrow at Metricon Stadium with access to the stadium via Gate 3 from 11.45am. Parking will be available in the red & yellow car park for tomorrow's curtain raiser game.
The Gold Coast SUNS reserves will be looking to hand the Brisbane Lions seconds their first loss to the 2013 season, when they face off against the reigning NEAFL premiers on Sunday.
The NEAFL side will be looking to produce the same class and polish they showed in their 126-point win over Mt. Gravatt in their season opener, and will be even hungrier to secure successive victories at Metricon Stadium in front of their local crowd.
For NEAFL coach Shaun Hart, the contest will be a great opportunity for his young and talented playing group to test their skills against the more-experienced Lions side.
“They have a very strong team and only have about three or four guys topping them up… so they’ll have a lot of ball-winners around the stoppages,” said Hart.
“They have got a lot of height up forward and there’s a few guys coming back from their seniors who will be pretty keen to impress… so we’ll have to try and move their defenders around and manipulate them to ensure we kick the winning score.”
After an impressive start to his 2013 campaign, averaging 3.5 goals in their last two contests, Hart conceded Josh Hall would likely some attention around the ground – but couldn’t assure goldcoastfc.com.au which end of the ground he would be positioned.
“They’ll certainly have their match-ups ready to go, but Josh might spend some time down back depending on how he’s going and how the team is going,” Hart said.
“(But) he’s been presenting really well and giving himself an opportunity and giving good effort around the ground… and he’s getting some real reward out of his game.”
Meanwhile Jacob Gillbee is preparing to make his first NEAFL appearance for 2013 after serving a four-week club imposed suspension received earlier in the year.
