The Gold Coast Football Club has added another Victorian to its list for 2010 with Calder Cannons defender / onballer Joshua Toy agreeing to join the club.
Toy, an AFL AIS program graduate, is one of 12 eligible 17-year-olds born between January and April 1992 who are able to sign with GCFC.
Toy was a member of Vic Metro U16 and U18 teams at National Championship level and selected in the 12th intake of the AFL/AIS Academy that toured South Africa this year.
Following the tour he was the recipient of the Ben Mitchell Medal which is nominated by your peers and represents the person that displays the most outstanding contribution across the whole team including leadership, discipline and work ethic.
GCFC Coach Guy McKenna said Toy has outstanding AFL playing attributes underpinned by elite athletic qualities.
“He is a driven ambitious young man. He displays great leadership, is courageous and very competitive. We know he will be a great asset to our group on and off the field,” he said.
“He is a versatile player who is extremely solid as well as creative from defence and can be very effective on ball and forward. His kicking is elite, accurate and penetrating.
“We are pleased Joshua has agreed to join us and be part of the Gold Coast Football Club journey to the AFL in 2011.”
Toy joins other 17 year olds who have committed to GCFC including Victorian TAC Cup players Matt Shaw from the Dandenong Stingrays and Trent McKenzie from the Western Jets. Tasmania’s Maverick Weller and Luke Russell also committed to the Club two weeks ago.
