Proud new father Heath Hill thought nothing of signing his day old son Bennett up for a Gold Coast SUNS membership, the 2009 foundation member securing Bennett’s place alongside mum Sarah and big brother James who is just eighteen months old.

“I was driving from our house back to the hospital and decided to sign him up.”

What he didn’t know is that Bennett officially became the club’s youngest member, and the 1000th person to secure a 2012 season membership.

Presented with a certificate of membership and some special Gold Coast SUNS merchandise including a scarf, bib and dummy, Bennett contently smiled and posed for photographers during a visit by the Gold Coast SUNS media team and the Gold Coast Bulletin this week, Heath hopeful the cameras are still following his son when he’s old enough and hopefully good enough to pull on a Gold Coast SUNS guernsey. 

“It’s something Bennett can carry for the rest of his life and who knows both of my sons could be in the Gold Coast SUNS one day.”

Heath could have some explaining to do in a few years when James starts asking why it took his father a week to sign him on as a member and Bennett just twenty four hours.

Heath was quick to say James can always claim he was there to see the Gold Coast SUNS play their inaugural season after watching the club in action against Geelong at Metricon Stadium.

“He enjoyed the first quarter, looked around and clapped, then fell asleep.” “We bought him earmuffs so he fell asleep pretty well.”
