Tune into SUNS TV for more
Media plays an increasingly crucial role in the life and careers of elite athletes and there has certainly been no escaping the spotlight for the Gold Coast SUNS during their trek to Arizona.
Apart from the daily snapping of images and video production by the SUNS TV team, the list have also captured the attention of NAZ today, a local news Broadcast produced by the Northern Arizona University and sent to over 600,000 people across the Flagstaff region but also to the wider state of Arizona.
This week Taylor Hine and Tom Hickey made a guest appearance on the NAZ Today program, the pair speaking candidly about the Arizona Training Camp, the formation of the Gold Coast SUNS and about the Gold Coast as a region and potential destination.
Anchor Ryan Lee was intrigued with the AFL as a code and quizzed the boys on everything from the game’s history, to the shape of the ball and match rules.
While admitting to a few nervous moments as they were counted in for their live segment, Taylor says visiting the studio and taking part in the show was a good experience. “I thought it was just going to be training and I’d be too tired to do anything else but it was alright and pretty good fun, interesting to see how everything works.”
Ryan was impressed with boys performance. “The boys did really well, they were very calm and they were very poised and I know that they really enjoyed it.“ “They represented the Gold Coast SUNS football team very well and I am sure the team will be very proud.”
Tom Hickey saying Americans have little if any knowledge of Australian football and were intrigued with the athleticism and rules of the game.
“They had absolutely no idea about AFL footy and wanted to know everything from training techniques to rules of the game, the length of the premiership season to our star players and of course how we are enjoying the Arizona altitude camp and our stay in Flagstaff. There was genuine interest which was good. “
