Gold Coast SUNS stars Gary Ablett and Michael Rischitelli have raised hopes of a return to take on the Giants by completing running drills at Metricon Stadium on Monday.

The pair are expected to step-up their intensity on Tuesday before taking part in a full training session on Wednesday.

Youngster David Swallow and veteran Jared Brennan have yet to run but are also considered a chance of playing in Canberra on Saturday.

The Giants have injury concerns of their own, Irishman Sentanta O'Hailpin has ruptured his ACL and will miss the remainder of the year while Dean Brogan is awaiting the results of scans on a suspected broken arm.

Gold Coast SUNS Football Manager Marcus Ashcroft said the SUNS were hopeful Ablett, Rischitelli, Brennan and Swallow could all make the trip to Manuka Oval.

"Gaz and Risha ran today and pulled up well so that was a good sign,'' he said.

"All the boys except David will run tomorrow with the intention of taking part in full training on Wednesday.

"We are hopeful all four will be around the mark but we are probably most confident with Rischa.''

Ashcroft said Brennan (knee) and Swallow were still sore when they presented at the club yesterday.''

SUNS vice captain Nathan Bock, who broke his leg in the seven point loss to the Dockers, has been placed on the long term injury list but the football department have yet to decide if they will elevate a rookie listed player.

There is some positive news on the injury front with Rory Thompson and Stephen May working their way back to full fitness.

Ashcroft said both defenders would make capable replacements for Bock when they regain match fitness.

Ashcroft said the club hoped Thompson, who had off-season groin surgery and then suffered a set back in his comeback in the twos, would be able to train fully on Wednesday in which case he would be rushed straight into the reserves NEAFL clash in Canberra.
