Five years ago the GC17 bid team created history on the Gold Coast, successfully lobbying for the 17th license in the AFL competition.
Yesterday, the Gold Coast SUNS assisted community leaders in creating another defining chapter in the city’s history books, this time donating a signed 2XU Club Guernsey for Surfers Paradise’s 80th Birthday time capsule.
It was a fitting gesture from the GC SUNS, with the design of the Guernsey proudly representing the city’s most distinguished qualities, from it’s golden sands to its striking blue skies.
Thanks to the Surfers Paradise Alliance, the guernsey will stay buried in the heart of the Gold Coast until such time as it is reopened.
Mayor Tom Tate opened the ceremonial proceedings, and was given the honour of “cutting the cake” in front of guests and council representatives.
American Muscle and Surf Cars were on display, while a jumping castle and plenty of face-painters created further value and entertainment for families and attendees.
