The Gold Coast SUNS have suffered another major injury blow, with star midfielder David Swallow set to miss up to six weeks with a posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injury.

Swallow suffered the knee injury during Saturday’s loss to the Giants in Canberra.

GC SUNS General Manager Football Operations Marcus Ashcroft confirmed the injury today.

“Scans on David’s left knee have confirmed that he has strained his PCL,”

“We will treat the injury conservatively and at this early stage we anticipate that he will miss six weeks with the injury.“

Ashcroft said the GC SUNS would give Swallow as much time as required to rehabilitate his knee.

“David is obviously an extremely important player for us and while we admire his determination to play, we need David fully fit in the future. “

In an exclusive interview with goldcoastfc.com.au, Swallow said the injury was particularly frustrating.

“At the time I thought it was a hit to my leg and I didn’t really think that it was the knee, I’ve had a pretty unlucky month, so it’s pretty disappointing, but I’m looking forward to getting back out there,” Swallow said.

The injury to Swallow’s left knee follows on from an ankle injury suffered against Fremantle at Metricon Stadium a week earlier and his hip injury against the Lions.

“First the hip and then the ankle and now the knee, It’s not ideal but that’s footy, its the nature of the game and its unfortunate but we move on and hopefully the boys can perform.
