Amazon Prime Video has revealed its first sneak peak of its exciting new AFL docu-series Making Their Mark.
The one-minute trailer highlights the story behind the 2020 Toyota AFL Premiership Season through the eyes of six executives and players from different teams including Gold Coast SUNS Senior Coach, Stuart Dew.
With the series set to be released on Friday March 12, speaking on Five AA radio, Stuart Dew highlighted the opportunity to take SUNS Members and fans inside the four walls of the football club.
“For our footy club we think it was probably a good chance to show who we are and what we’re trying to build at the SUNS because for some people we’re probably a little bit unknown up here,” Dew told FiveAA.
“We feel like we do have a responsibility to be open and there is not a lot of mystery in AFL Clubs anymore and hopefully that’s what comes across, is that we’re human and we go about it in similar ways to other sporting clubs.
“From our point of view, it will be great exposure for the Gold Coast SUNS and gives our supporters a chance to see how the players and staff go about it.”
Across seven hour-long episodes, Making Their Mark charts each team's extraordinary journey through the 2020 AFL season, providing unparalleled insight into the daily challenges and struggles faced both on and off the field.
These included the impact of the COVID-19 crisis which saw play suspended for 12 weeks resulting in a condensed season, the relocation of Victorian teams to other states, games played to empty stadiums, and the Grand Final being held at night and outside of Melbourne for the first time in AFL history.
Dew told Rowey and Bicks from FiveAA it was an “interesting” experience.
“It was interesting, you’re mic’d up basically every day, every conversation, all meetings. It took a while to get used to,” Dew said.
“They were pretty respectful and obviously at different times you might be having some personal conversations and I wanted to be extremely mindful of the players.
“There was a lot of things that people will find quite interesting and really inner sanctum, so hopefully they enjoy it.”
Stuart Dew will feature in the documentary alongside Nic Naitanui (West Coast ruckman), Stephen Coniglio (Greater Western Sydney captain), Eddie Betts (Carlton forward), Rory Sloane, (Adelaide captain), and the senior leadership of the Richmond Football Club (Peggy O'Neal, Brendon Gale and Damien Hardwick) – as they pursue the ultimate goal of a Toyota AFL Grand Final victory, in a season like no other.
