Two players will be a test for Gold Coast’s Round 5 AFLW match against West Coast on Sunday afternoon.
Janet Baird was ruled out of the match against Fremantle ahead of time with a knee injury, but AFLW Head Physiotherapist Aaron Duffy said she would resume training this week.
“Janet experienced some pain in her right knee following a training session in the week,” Duffy told the Qscan AFLW Injury Update.
“We decided to take a conservative approach with Janet and therefore she was ruled out of the game against Fremantle.
“She’ll return to training this week and we’ll monitor how she goes throughout the week and she’ll be a test for the weekend.”
Midfielder Alison Drennan sustained an ankle injury in the fourth quarter of the match against Fremantle and wasn’t able to play out the game.
Duffy said she had recovered well in the days since and would be a test for the match against West Coast.
“Ali suffered a minor lateral ankle sprain during the game on the weekend,” he said.
“She’s pulled up quite well following the game, we’ll monitor how she goes through training and at this stage she’ll be a test for Round 5.”
First-year midfielder Lucy Single also sustained an injury in the final quarter but is expected to be fit to play.
“Lucy experienced some right shoulder pain following a tackle during the fourth quarter against Fremantle.
“She was removed from the rest of the game as a precautionary measure.
“She has recovered really well from the game with no effects from that tackle so at this stage she’ll be available for Round 5.”
The SUNS play West Coast at 4:10pm AEST on Sunday.
