A spirited Gold Coast SUNS performance has fallen just short in Saturday’s AFLW Round 9 clash at Metricon Stadium, going down to Geelong by 10 points.
The SUNS remained within touch throughout the contest but were forced to pay for a slow start which saw Geelong jump out to an early 19-point lead at quarter time and finishing 6.5 (41) to 3.6 (24).
Kalinda Howarth was among the SUNS best, racking up 13 touches and kicking the home side’s first two goals before a late goal in the third term from co-captain Sam Virgo kept the SUNS within reach at the final break.
