Trent McKenzie will be hungry to taste football action against Mt. Gravatt this Saturday, after the superboot endured a frustrating pre-season overcoming knee tendinitis.

The exciting 20-year-old enjoyed a fantastic finish to 2012 – averaging 19 possessions in the last seven games for the GC SUNS in their promising end-of-season campaign.

McKenzie has strung together a month of intensive training and will now gain match fitness and conditioning through the NEAFL competition.

The plan for the  39-game swingman will be to string together a series of solid performances as he fights his way back into the senior side.

New recruit Clay Cameron will make his first appearance for the GC SUNS Reserves, and is expected to draw plenty of attention from his former NEAFL team mates.

Teenage sensation Jack Martin will also be giving local fans a glimpse at what to expect in 2014, as the elite youngster looks to gain valuable match experience over the next 12 months through the NEAFL competition.

Hard-working defenders Maverick Weller, Jack Hutchins and Kyal Horsley will also be determined to perform well, keeping their names in the senior selection frame against Mt. Gravatt, after being named as emergencies for the GC SUNS season opener against St. Kilda at Metricon Stadium this Saturday.

In a side note, Weller’s younger brother, Lachie, a member of the GC SUNS Talent Academy, will also represent the GC SUNS Reserves.

Meanwhile, experienced midfielder Danny Stanley has been named Reserves skipper and will also be looking to impress SUNS coaching staff with a strong performance through the middle of the ground.

The NEAFL curtain raiser for the GC SUNS vs. St. Kilda Easter blockbuster is scheduled for a 3:00pm centre bounce.

* A valid ticket for the Gold Coast SUNS v St Kilda AFL game is required to gain entry to the curtain raiser game. Entry to ticket holders is only permitted through Gate 1 from 2.50pm onwards.
