There’s a real sense of excitement around Metricon Stadium heading into the Christmas break, with not only Gold Coast SUNS fans feeling energised about 2016 but also club chief executive Andrew Travis.

Speaking to SUNS TV on Friday, Travis revealed the events of 2015 were a distant memory and the focus was well and truly on the year ahead.

“Yesterday’s (open training) session and the events we’ve done in the past month, there’s a definite excitement about 2016,” he said.

“It’s been going really since October when we switched our mind to the year ahead and since the players came back in November, it’s only continued to grow.

“Going into the break I’m really excited about what ’16 can bring.”

Two focus areas heading into 2016 are high performance and leadership, with solid advancement being made in both spaces which the club hopes will translate to on-field success.

However the club’s imminent move into its $22 million permanent training and administration base in the Metricon Stadium precinct is generating significant anticipation off-field for players, staff and fans alike.

Over recent months, the construction activity on Nerang-Broadbeach Road has ramped up, with progress visible to all passers-by. The SUNS expect to move into their new facility in October 2016.

“I think the fans would be surprised when they drive past Metricon Stadium at how quickly it’s evolving under our eyes,” Travis said.

“The precinct’s going to be really special when it’s done and we’re aiming to move into our new facility in October next year so less than 12 months from today.”

With Christmas just around the corner, the SUNS CEO had this message for members and fans.

“I’d just like to say thanks for your support this year,” Travis said.

“We stuck together, I think we’ve come out of it stronger, more committed, a better club and please have a great Christmas with your family. Enjoy your break, get refreshed, but get excited about 2016.”
