Karmichael Hunt will continue his AFL career in 2014, with the Gold Coast SUNS reaffirming that Hunt still had plenty to offer.

Recent media reports have linked Hunt to a switch back to NRL in 2014.

A GC SUNS spokesman said Hunt was contracted to the club for the 2014 AFL season.

"Karmichael is contracted to the Gold Coast SUNS for the 2014 season.  At this point his pure focus, and that of the coaches', is on working really hard during pre-season to prepare himself for next year.

"Karmichael had an injury interrupted season in 2013 and we are excited about the role he can play for the team next year with a full pre-season under his belt," the spokesman said.

The GC SUNS acknowledge the interest surrounding Hunt's future, and have indicated that discussions with Hunt and his management would take place in due course about his future following the 2014 season.

"We understand the interest surrounding Karmichael, however there have been no discussions with Karmichael regarding post 2014.

These discussions will take place in due course," added the spokesman.

Portrayed as a publicity stunt and doubted by many Hunt has made a successful transition to AFL.

Hunt played 16 games in 2011 and spent most of his time in defence on a variety of small and tall opponents, earning himself selection in the Queensland AFL Team of the Year.

In 2012, Hunt silenced any remaining critics, playing 18 games and taking his game to another level, becoming a bonafide midfielder and earning himself a contract extension with the GC SUNS.

He was also the man responsible for delivering the GC SUNS their first win of the season. Down by four points as the siren sounded, Hunt, with ice running through his veins, calmly went back and slotted a goal after the siren to beat Richmond in Cairns.

Hamstring tendonitis restricted Hunt to nine games in 2013. Hunt has now played 43 senior AFL games with the GC SUNS and sits 13th on the club's most games list after its initial three years in the competition.

Prior to joining the GC SUNS, Hunt made his National Rugby League debut in 2004 with the Brisbane Broncos, playing every game that year, and winning the Dally M Rookie of the Year Award for his stellar opening season. In 2006 he realised a childhood dream by representing Queensland and Australia.

Over the course of his five year stint in rugby league, Hunt played 124 games for the Broncos, represented Queensland in 11 State of Origin games, and lined up for Australia on ten occasions.

In 2010, while contracted to the Gold Coast SUNS he played a season with Biarritz Olympique in the Top 14 French Rugby Union competition.

Hunt was the first sportsperson in Australia to have reached elite professional level in three different football codes.
