Nine unanswered goals during a blistering second term set up a monstrous 145-point Premiership victory for the Gold Coast SUNS NEAFL team at Metricon Stadium yesterday afternoon, the home side making easy work of an undermanned Labrador side to all but secure the Club a third consecutive finals series.

Andrew Boston opened the scoring, the zippy small-forward cleaning up a missed shot on goal to notch the first-of-his-three for the afternoon.

In an encouraging sign for the Club's coaching staff, Jared Brennan wreaked havoc around the forwardline from the opening bounce, the veteran utility putting in a best-on-ground performance for the Home team -finishing with a game-high five goals.

Maverick Weller collected plenty of good touches early, throwing himself around the stoppage work alongside Michael Rischitelli, Jack Hutchins and Josh Hall in the midfield.

Karmichael Hunt put the icing on the cake for the Gold Coasters late in the second term – the slotting the 45m set-shot for goal that was still rising as it went through the posts just seconds before the half time break.

It was Hunts first match back after missing four weeks of football with a niggling calf injury.

Despite the SUNS entering the final term with a whopping 128-point scoreboard margin, Shaun Hart urged his young playing group to keep up their relentless defensive pressure as the squad look to build form heading into the September action.

Speaking exclusively with goldcoastfc.com.au after celebrating the team’s 10th Premiership victory for 2013, Hart praised the visitor’s for maintaining their competitive spirit right through to the final siren.

“In fairness to Labrador they were missing a number of their key players and it certainly showed on the scoreboard this afternoon,” he said.

“We got the job done and we can’t be disappointed with that.”

With Brennan, Hutchins, Hunt and Rischitelli all leading from the front, Hart said it was great to see the club’s senior-listed players rise to the occasion as they look to finish 2013 with a senior recall.

“It was certainly pleasing to see our experienced players lead from the front and continue to show their hunger to play senior football.”

“There’s still three AFL Premiership rounds remaining and I know they want to be a part of those games.”
