The Gold Coast SUNS have made further list changes prior to the first list lodgement deadline on October 29.
The SUNS would like to thank Category B rookie Luke Towey for his contributions as he leaves the club to return to Ireland.
Towey joined the SUNS in the 2019 off-season after a strong showing at the AFL Europe combine where he impressed with his speed and agility.
A skilful Gaelic footballer from a young age, Towey developed his craft at half-back for the SUNS across two seasons, playing four VFL matches for the club in 2021.
SUNS General Manager of Player Talent and Strategy Craig Cameron thanked Towey for his commitment to the club after relocating overseas to pursue his career.
“It hasn’t been an easy two seasons of AFL football, particularly for someone brand new to learning the game like Luke has,” Cameron said.
“We want to commend him for his attitude and dedication to the SUNS over the last two years and wish him all the best for what lies ahead.”
The club has also chosen to delist rookie Jacob Townsend but will consider re-drafting him through the NAB AFL Rookie Draft.
Townsend joined the club ahead of the 2021 Toyota AFL Premiership Season, playing two games and kicking three goals.
The delisted free agency period begins on Wednesday November 3 before the second list lodgement date on November 10.
