SUNS VFL captain James Tsitas is in contention to add another honour to his extensive footballing resume, today named in the extended 43-player VFL State Team squad.

The 30-year-old is in the mix to represent the VFL in the 2025 AAMI State Game against the SANFL State Team at Tanunda Recreation Park during Gather Round on Saturday, April 12.

The clash between the two representative teams will follow the SUNS’ historic clash against North Melbourne at the nearby Barossa Park.

The Smithy’s VFL State Team squad features representatives from 18 clubs across the 21-team competition.

Tsitas will be looking to follow in the steps of SUNS recruit Ben Jepson who represented the side in 2024 in what was the VFL’s first representative clash since 2017.

Only VFL-listed players are available to be selected in the Smithy’s VFL State Team, with current AFL-listed players ineligible.

The final team of 23 players to represent the ‘Big V’ will be announced in the week leading into the match.
