The Gold Coast SUNS AFLW players will wear the club’s specially designed Pride Round guernsey when the team hosts Richmond at Metricon Stadium on Sunday.
The team was originally slated to wear the new rainbow strip in Pride Round against the Brisbane Lions before the match was forced to be rescheduled due to player unavailability through the AFL Health and Safety Protocols.
Instead, the players will still get the chance to represent the LGBTQIA+ community in the club’s first home game of the season at Metricon Stadium.
“It’s a great result that we still get the chance to wear our Pride Guernsey this weekend,” SUNS AFLW player and co-designer of the guernsey Sarah Perkins said.
“I know it means a lot to myself and the rest of the team to be able to represent the community this way and I am looking forward to pulling on the guernsey on Sunday.”
The match against Richmond gets underway at 4:10pm on Sunday. Tickets cost $10 with juniors aged 17 and under receiving free entry.
