Following an impressive performance against Geelong, SUNS midfielder Ellie Hampson has been named a Round 6 NAB AFLW Rising Star nominee.
Hampson was influential in the club’s third win of its season, amassing 16 disposals (10 contested), six tackles, six clearances and a goal.
After two interrupted seasons with injury, the 21-year-old is finally enjoying continuity in her football.
She has played four games this season and 11 across her three-year career with the SUNS.
Hampson is also the longest-serving SUN currently on the list after being one of three foundation signings back in 2019.
She becomes the second SUN to be nominated for the NAB AFLW Rising Star award this season after Charlie Rowbottom earnt a nomination in Round 2.
All AFLW players born in 2001, 2002 or 2003 and who have not previously been nominated as a Rising Star qualify for consideration for the award.
Two players will be nominated each week of the NAB AFL Women’s Competition. Fremantle’s Mikayla Morrison is the other Round 6 nominee.
Each of the 18 NAB AFL Women’s Rising Star nominees throughout the season will be awarded $500 prize money from NAB to acknowledge their great achievement. In addition, NAB will continue to support the development of future footy stars by awarding junior clubs of each nominee with a NAB Club Recognition Award pack of practical and financial resources, valued at $2000.
Hampson’s junior club is the Hermit Park Tigers in Townsville, while she also came through the SUNS Academy development program.
The overall NAB AFL Women’s Rising Star winner will be awarded $20,000 from NAB and a private banker to assist with securing their financial future.
