Callum Ah Chee will be a Gold Coast SUN for years to come after agreeing to a new deal to stay on the Gold Coast.
The SUNS’ first pick in the 2015 NAB AFL draft (selection 8 overall), cemented his place as a first-choice member of Rodney Eade’s best 22, playing 16 games in his maiden AFL season.
Ah Chee has all the makings of becoming a long-term player for the SUNS, and says he’s enjoying his football and the lifestyle on the Gold Coast.
“I’m absolutely loving it here on the Gold Coast and thought it was the right time to extend as I’m very excited at what 2017 and beyond will bring,” Ah Chee said.
“It’s a great football club and I’m loving how we are going; we are heading in the right direction and have the right people on board.”
When he was drafted, Ah Chee, then 18 years of age was excited to join the Gold Coast SUNS, but not too many teenagers relocate from Perth to the Gold Coast at such a young age.
Thankfully, strong friendships around the club has helped his transition to the coast, including his tight-knit bond with fellow 2015 draftees Jesse Joyce and Josh Schoenfeld.
“’Rocket’ has been really good to me; given me an opportunity and I didn’t think I would play 16 games this year but I did… he has been a great mentor and coach, and I’m loving having him at the club.”
List & Strategy Manager, Scott Clayton, said he was incredibly pleased to have agreed to terms with Callum’s Manager, Ben Williams from Players Ink, to extend Ah Chee.
“He’s an exciting player. He’s of great character, from a terrific family ,and we are rapt to extend his contract.”
“Callum is a forward and for his size he’s a brilliant mark, he’s a super kick, and is very elusive. But he’s more than that, we think he can end up going into the midfield and end up being an inside-outside player.”
