The Gold Coast SUNS have drafted dynamic SUNS Academy forward Jasmyn Smith with selection 52 in the 2022 NAB AFLW Draft.
Smith is a pressuring high half forward who can pinch-hit in the midfield or on the wing, where her elite endurance and athleticism are displayed.
The 18-year-old first joined the Broadbeach Cats in 2018 before being identified early as a SUNS Academy prospect.
She has most recently played senior women’s football for Bond University in the QAFLW competition.
Playing as a midfielder for Queensland in the NAB AFLW Under-18 Championships, Smith averaged 18 disposals and six clearances, ranked first in the Championships for clearances per game.
At the 2022 Draft Combine, Smith posted the fastest time in the 2km time trial with a rapid time of 7:22, which is also third-fastest of all time.
Smith is the daughter of a Geelong VFL footballer-turned-triathlete champion father, and Commonwealth Games badminton bronze medallist mother.
Off the field, Smith is completing Grade 12 at Emmanuel College where she holds the role of school vice-captain.
